Itinerary
1° Day Matera
Late afternoon arrival of your group in Matera, evening meal and accommodation in hotel.
2° Day Matera
Full board in hotel. The entire day will be spent sightseeing, and you will visit the famous Sassi (Stones) and the numerous rock churches that date back to the years between the VI and the XVIII centuries, most of which are in Sasso Caveoso.
3° Day Metaponto - Policoro
After breakfast in the hotel, departure for Metaponto, where you will visit the archaeolocical part of the town, and the Antiquarium, one of the most organised and richest testimonies of the Classic world. Lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon a visit to Policoro, between the ancient remains of the town of Heraclea and the National Museum of Siritide. Return to Matera in the evening for evening meal and accommodation in hotel.
4° Day outskirts of Matera
After breakfast in the hotel, a tour of the outskirts of Matera: the “la Martella” Village, the Sanctuary of the Madonna of Picciano, the Lake and Dam of San Giuliano, Miglionico with its Castle of Malconsiglio that is still in good condition, where the Conspiracy of the Barons against Ferdinando I of Aragon was planned, and also the Church where you can still see a beautiful polyptych of Cima da Conegliato. Return to hotel for lunch. In the afternoon some sightseeing of the old part of the town and the Romanesque- Puglia style Dome dating back to 1268/70, then the Palazzo Arcivescovile of the year 1200 and the Palazzo Lanfranchi, once the high school where Giovanni Pascoli taught. Return to hotel for evening meal and accommodation.
5° Day Royal Palace of Caserta
Breakfast in hotel. Departure for Caserta and a visit to Reggia. Lunch in restaurant:
