4 Days (3 Nights)

CIRCEO AND ISLAND OF PONZA, the riviera of Ulisse

Destination: Italy /

Itinerary

1° Day Sermoneta

Your group arrives in Sermoneta in the early afternoon, where you will visit the absolutely superb Castle with its towers and bridges. Later in the afternoon you will head for the Riviera of Ulisse. Blue: the sea. Golden: the sand. Green: the tufts of garrigue among the rocky cliffs. Yellow: the brooms on the mountain slopes. Red: the sunset. Here, nature itself explains its colours, offering you unique panoramas. The Saracen disembarkations come back to mind, filling the air with legends, giving the entire area special environmental and scenic importance, so rich in fauna and flora that it is part of the National Research Council for the map-making of those areas in Lazio considered special. The archaeological remains, like those of Villa di Tiberio, or the coastal Towers, make the area even more precious: Capo Vento, S. Agostino, Scissura, Viola. Evening meal and accommodation in hotel.

2° Day Isola di Ponza

After breakfast, departure for the Island of Ponza, or the “sentry of the Tirreno”, surrounded by other small islands, on the Pontine coast: Palmarola, Zannone, Gavi and Ventotene. Tour of the island by minibus. Lunch in a typical restaurant. Afternoon: boat excursion (on request, guests have to pay for it). Return to hotel for evening meal and accommodation.

3° Day Terracina - San Felice Circeo - Sperlonga

After breakfast in the hotel, morning: trip to Terracina: a visit to the famous Temple of Giove Anxur, then San Felice Circeo: a visit to the National Park, a naturalistic oasis that thanks to its climate and ever changing environment, is particularly interesting. Stop at a cooperative wine cellar for some Circeo wine tasting. Return to hotel for lunch. Afternoon: trip to Sperlonga: tour of the National Museum of Archaeology and Emperor Tiberio’s Villa. A walk through the lively old part, whose “high up on the cliffs” position is due to its past need for protection against pirates from the sea. Return to hotel for evening meal and accommodation.

4° Day Piana delle orme

After breakfast in the hotel, departure for a spectacular tour (the only one of its kind) of the History Museum of Piana delle Orme, a park built specifically with history in mind, where you can see one of the BIGGEST AND MOST COMPLETE COLLECTIONS IN THE WORLD: aeroplanes, tanks, trains, carts, radios, arms and hundreds of military vehicles, tractors, threshing machines, trams and buses, tools and thousands of every type of object. Dedicated to the twentieth century, the entire museum is like a journey covering 50 years of Italian history. 14 PAVILIONS, EACH COVERING A DIFFERENT ASPECT: the traditions and culture of agricultural Italy, the great resoration works, the Second World War, but also vehicles and means of transport at the dawn of the great industrialisation, as well as the toys children of the past used to play with. Lunch in a restaurant.
