Itinerary
1° Day Orvieto
Your group arrives in Orvieto in the afternoon: “the white tuff rock rises high like a cliff, plunges down to the lush Paglia valley. A timeless island, today, as though maybe in the past it was an island in one of the Tyrrhenian gulfs, holding the city high”. Tour of the city: after breakfast departure for the city of Orvieto: Rocca dell’Albornoz, the Well of San Patrizio (outside), the Belvedere Temple, Dome, Church of Sant’Andrea, Palazzi Pubblici medievali (outside). Lunch in a restaurant. Next stop near Perugia or Assisi, arrival at hotel, evening meal and accommodation.
2° Day Perugia - Assisi
After breakfast in the hotel, departure for a tour of Perugia, chief town of the region of Perugia, with a guide, if included in the cost, in the heart of the lush Tevere valley, not far from Lake Trasimeno, high up on a rugged hill with sometimes low, sometimes high summits . You can visit: the Piazza IV Novembre, the Fontana Maggiore, the Cathedral, the Palazzo dei Priori, the National Gallery of Umbria, Maestà delle Volte, the Rocca Paolina, and the old part. Lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon departure for Assisi , (an enchanting tour, due to the beautiful hills, the colour of the buildings in the old part, and the memories linked to San Francesco), where you will visit: the Basilica of San Francesco, Santa Chiara, San Ruffino, the Piazza del Comune, the Rocca Maggiore. Next destination Santa Maria degli Angeli for a visit of the Church. Return to hotel, evening meal and acccommodation.
3° Day Spoleto - Spello - Todi
After breakfast in the hotel, departure for Spoleto, with our guide if included in the cost, The first thing you will see as you approach it are the lush lands, cultivated and inhabited; mountains and fertile hills; but above all many olive groves. Tour of the town: the old part, the Piazza della Libertà, the Roman Theatre, the Palazzo Comunale, the Piazza del Duomo, the Palazzo della Signoria, the Dome, the Church of San Pietro and the Ponte delle Torri. Lunch in a restaurant. Next destination Spello, an old town, with its limestone houses and narrow streets, gardens at the back admiring the panorama, shady corridors, flyovers on lanes; you will visit: the Porta Consolare, the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Piazza della Repubblica with its Palazzo Comunale and Porta Venere. Departure for Todi, that suddenly appears before you where the valley narrows on a high plain, between blue and green, with its old bell towers and stones and roofs that change colour depending on the light. You will visit: the Piazza del Popolo, the Palazzo dei Priori, the Palazzo del Podestà, the Dome, the Church of San Fortunato, the Church of Santa Maria della Consolazione. Return to hotel, evening meal and accommodation.
4° Day Gubbio
After breakfast in the hotel, you will meet up with our guide, if included in the cost, for a tour of Gubbio, a grey coloured town due to the old bricks used to build it, that seems to hang on to the slopes and look down towards the large plain below and the hills all around. Narrow streets and stairways through the pure limestone buildings lead you to the main roads. You can visit: the Quaranta Martiri Square, the Church of San Francesco, the Roman Theatre, the Piazza della Signoria, the Palazzo Ducale and the Cathedral. Lunch in a restaurant.
