Itinerary
1° Day Tuscania – Montefiascone
Your group arrives in Tuscania in the afternoon, a picturesque town in northern Lazio situated on a tuffaceous plain surrounded by deep gorges. To be seen: the Duomo, the Church of San Pietro, the Church of Maria Maggiore, the Archaeology Museum and the Etruscan Necropolis. Next stop Montefiascone, a small, hillside town overlooking Lake Bolsena; along Via Cassia: famous for its wine, to be seen: the cooperative wine cellar, the Church of Santa Margherita and the Church of San Flaviano. Departure for Viterbo, arrival at hotel, evening meal and accommodation.
2° Day Bomarzo – Caprarola – Civita
After breakfast in the hotel, departure for Bomarzo, with a tour of the Parco dei Mostri, an original and unusual creation built towards the end of the XVI century by Vicino Orsini, where you will see huge, grotesque sculptures that confirm the artist’s passion for artistic creations with different origins, nothing like the Italian culture of the sixteenth century. Next destination Caprarola, with a visit to the Palazzo Farnese. Lunch in restaurant. Departure for Civita di Bagnoregio, where you will visit the famous “dying city”, an ancient part consisting of few houses on a clay summit that are slowly crumbling due to erosion. Return to hotel for evening meal and accommodation.
3° Day Viterbo – Villa Lante
After breakfast in hotel, the entire morning will be dedicated to a tour of the Abbey of San Martino al Cimino, and the Churches of San Sisto and Santa Maria della Verità. Return to hotel for lunch. Bagnaia in the afternoon, with a visit to the beautiful Villa Lante, very popular with the Prince of England. The style of the garden is one of Italy’s best examples of Renaissance architecture. The afternoon comes to an end with a short visit to the Church of Santa Maria della Quercia. Return to hotel for evening meal and accommodation.
4° Day Viterbo
Breakfast in hotel, then a tour of the ancient papal town of Viterbo; to be seen: the Palazzo dei Priori, the Church of Jesus, the Dome, the Palazzo Papale and the medieval part of San Pellegrino, so characteristic with its houses that are the oldest in the whole town, all decorated with arches, loggias and outside stairs, and antique shops at every street corner, the Church of San Francesco with the tombs of the Popes, the Rocca Albornoz Museum. Return to hotel for lunch.
