Itinerary

1° Day Palermo

Once you arrive in Palermo, the entire day will be spent on a sightseeing tour of this chief town with its beautiful Dome of Monreale, its Cloister and its Palatine Chapel. In the afternoon the tour will be of the inside of the Capo characteristic market. Your day comes to an end with your evening meal and accommodation in your hotel.

2° Day Marsala

After breakfast in the hotel departure for Marsala across the suggestive scenery of the saltworks. You will visit the Pellegrino Wine Cellars, one of the oldest Marsala wine producing firms, a first quality sweet wine that is exported all over the world, that as far back as 1844 was classified as a vintage wine by the Olympus. You will have your lunch, consisting of cous cous and other specilaities from Trapani, in an ancient country house or in the salt museum, then you will visit the Archaeology Park of Selinunte, the largest in all the Mediterranean. Hotel in Agrigento for evening meal and accommodation.

3° Day Agrigento

The morning will be spent sightseeing in Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples, where you will be able to admire, but not only, the Temple of Giunone and that of the Concordia. Next destination the house where Luigi Pirandello was born, the great playwright of the last century, then on to Raffadali where the Di Stefano patisserie has been making the best traditional Sicilian cakes for more than twenty years. Their “Trionfo del Pistacchio”, a soft, filled cake, is an absolute must. After your evening meal, you can either go on a night tour of the lit up Valley of the Temples or go and see a theatrical play.

4° Day Enna - Villa Romana del Casale

Breakfast in the hotel, then a trip across the hinterland of Sicily takes you to the medieval town of Enna with its magnificent Castle of Lombardia. Lunch, consisting of typical, local sishes, will be in a farm holiday centre. The afternoon will be spent admiring the amazing mosaics of the Roman Villa of the Casale of Piazza Armerina, then back to your hotel for your evening meal and accommodation.

5° Day Catania - Taorminia

Breakfast in hotel then off to Catania, land of ice cream and magnificent water ices, but above all hot foodstuffs: “arancini” (croquettes made from rice, tomato sauce and mozzarella), “bolognesi”, small onions, foil baked foods...an endless choice! After a tour of the old part you will move on to Taormina, capital of tourism in Sicily, then on to your hotel for your evening meal and accommodation.

6° Day Ragusa

Departure for Ragusa, where the entire day will be spent at the Ragusa doc cheese farms, guided by provincial experts, where you will see how the milk is worked as well as do some cheese tasting. Next destination Ragusa Ibla, completely rebuilt from scratch in Baroque style after the terrible earthquake in 1693, and here you will recognise some of the places and scenery where “Montalbano” was fimed. Return to hotel for evening meal and accommodation.

7° Day Tenuta San Michele

You will be guests on the San Michele Estate, that has belonged to the Scamacca family since 1850, for a wine day! This estate, on the eastern side of Etna, covers an area of 27 hectares, and the grapes grown in the Caricante and Cataratto areas are those used to make the Murgo red and brut doc wines. You will visit the lava side where the vulcano recently erupted, then back to your hotel for your evening meal and accommodation.

8° Day
