Itinerary
1° Day Palermo – Monreale – Mondello – Monte Pellegrino
Early morning arrival of ferry at the port of Palermo, disembarkation and meeting up with our Sicilian guide for a tour of the city’s most important monuments: the Church of San Giovanni degli Eremiti, with its characteristic Moresco style pink domes, Palazzo dei Normanni with its magnificent palatine Chapel, a past, present and future artistic jewel, and the Cathedral that is also Norman. You will then head for Monreale, and visit its Dome with the beautiful, multi coloured mosaics, and the famous Cloister of the ancient Benedictine Convent. Arrival at your hotel for lunch and accommodation. In the afternoon a walk to Mondello, a famous tourist-beach resort with Monte Pellegrino watching over it. The Sanctuary dedicated to Santa Rosalia was built on the side of the mountain, and the view from here is absolutely breathtaking. Return to hotel for evening meal and accommodation.
2° Day Segesta – Erice – Selinunte
Breakfast in hotel then departure for Segesta for a visit to the Solitary Temple. Next destination the medieval town of Erice for lunch in a restaurant, then on to Selinunte where you will visit the Archaeology Area with its Oriental Temples and the Acropoli. Evening meal and accommodation in hotel.
3° Day Agrigento – Piazza Armerina – Acireale
Breakfast in hotel then departure for Agrigento, where you will visit the suggestive Valley of the Temples. Lunch in a restaurant, then in the afternoon you will head for Piazza Armerina and visit the Roman Villa of the Casale. Last destination of the day is Acireale, where you will have your evening meal and accommodation in a hotel.
4° Day Etna – Taormina
Breakfast in the hotel then departure for a trip to Etna as far as 1.900 metres high, with a stop to enable you to admire the scenery from the Silvestri Craters and the unique vegetation in the area. Return to hotel for lunch. In the afternoon a tour of the Teatro Antico, the Odeon, the Palazzo Corvaia and the Giardini Pubblici in Taormina. Return to hotel for evening meal and accommodation
5° Day Siracusa – Catania
Breakfast in hotel then departure for Siracusa, and you will spend the entire day on a sightseeing tour of this city that is famous all over the world thanks to its numerous monuments and excavations dating back to the Greek-Roman times to be found inside the Archaeology Park: The Greek Theatre, built on the rocks, is the largest historical theatre; the huge Roman Amphitheatre, the Ara of GironeII, the Latomia del Paradiso with the Grotto of the Cordiari and the Orecchio of Dionisio, the tomb of Archimedes. Lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon a visit to the Baroque buildings in Ortigia, amongst which the Cathedral with its majestic façade stands out above the rest. A short stop at the legendary Fonte Aretusa. On the way back you will stop at Catania for a brief look at the old part: the Dome, the Fontana dell’Elefante and Via dei Crociferi. Then you will head for your hotel and go through Acicastello and Acitrezza, two scenic hillside towns on the Riviera dei Ciclopi. Return to hotel for evening meal and accommodation.
6° Day Messina
Breakfast in hotel then departure for Messina, where you will visit the Cathedral and the Campanile dell’Orologio with its hand wound clock right next to it. Departure for Brolo for lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon departure for the port of Palermo.
