Itinerary
1° Day Bolsena – Montefiascone – Caprarola
You arrive at Lake Bolsena where you will visit both the town and the beautiful lake, then your next destination will be Montefiascone, a small town that sits at the top of a hill overlooking the Lake along the road to Via Cassia, famous for its wine. You will visit: the social winery, the Church of Santa Margherita and the Church of San Flaviano. Arrival at hotel for lunch. Transfer to Caprarola in the afternoon and visit to the Palazzo Farnese. Return to hotel for evening meal and accommodation.
2° Day Civita Castellana – Calcata, «the Artist’s Village» – Nepi
3° Day ORVIETO - CIVITA DI BANOREGIO
Breakfast in hotel then departure for Orvieto: “the white tufa cliff rises high above the sea and goes as far down as the Paglia valley”, like a place where time stands still just like an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea from the distant past, and you think you are looking at an optical illusion of a town that in actual fact hasn’t been built but carved out of the rocks. Visit of the town: Rocca dell’Albornoz, the Well of San Patrizio (outside only), Tempio del Belvedere, the Dome, Church of Sant’Andrea, the Town Buildings of the Middle Ages (outside only). Lunch in a restaurant, then departure in the afternoon for Civita di Bagnoregio, with a visit to the “dying city”, an ancient town consisting of a few houses sitting at the top of clay peak that is slowly crumbling because of erosion. Return to hotel for evening meal and accommodation.
4° Day Tarquinia – Vulci – Tuscania
Breakfast in hotel then departure for a tour of Tarquinia, a picturesque town on the northern side of Lazio. It is rich in Medieval monuments, but it is most famous for its Etruscan necropolis. Lunch in a holiday farm centre. Visit to Vulci in the afternoon where you will see the vast archaeology area that includes the National Museum, the Etruscan Necropolis and Civita. Transfer to the picturesque town of Tarquinia, that sits at the top of a tufa hill with lush ravines all around. You will visit: the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Archaeology Museum, the Etruscan Museum. Return to hotel, evening meal and accommodation.
5° Day VITERBO
Breakfast in hotel then departure for a tour of Viterbo, once the city of the Popes. You will see: the Palazzo dei Priori, the Church of Gesù, the Palazzo Papale and the Medieval town of San Patrignano, with its characteristic ancient houses decorated with arches, porches and external stairs at every corner, shops that deal in antiques, the Church of San Francesco and the tombs of the Popes, the Rocca Albornoz Nuseum. Lunch in restaurant.
