VAL TIBERINA AND MUCH MORE

1° Day Cortona

Your group arrives in Cortona in the afternoon. Pure air and the sound of the leaves on the olive trees rustling in the wind. This city, the colour of sandstone, standing high on many different levels , is but a small part of the vast area surrounded by the Etruscan wall on the steep buttress of Alta di Sant’Egidio, on the eastern side of the Val di Chiana plain. To be seen: Piazza della Repubblica, Palazzo Comunale, Pretorio, Madonna del Calcinaio, Santa Maria Nuova. Return to hotel in the evening for evening meal and accommodation.

2° Day Chiusi di La Verna – Arezzo

Breakfast in the hotel, then departure for La Verna, a mountain covered by lush forests between Valle del Tevere and Val le dell’Arno. To be seen: The Convent of the Francescani, the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, the Museo del Santuario, the Chiesa Maggiore and the Chiesa delle Stimmate. Stop for lunch in a restaurant. Departure in the afternoon for Arezzo,that, on the last slopes on the western side of Alpe di Poti, looks down towards where Valdarno, Casentino and Valdichiana meet, and where modern development has only arrived recently. You will be very struck by the strong medieval aspect of this town: Piazza San Francesco, la Pieve di Santa Maria, Piazza Grande, the Dome, San Domenico and Santa Maria delle Grazie. Return to hotel, evening meal and accommodation.

3° Day San Sepolcro – Anghiari – Sorci

Breakfast in the hotel and departure for a tour of San Sepolcro, where you will visit the Dome, the Palazzo Pretorio, the Palazzo delle Laudi, the Town Picture Gallery. Next stop Anghiari, a town that is both agricultural and industrial on the watershed between the Valle Tiberina and the Valle di Sovara. To be seen: the Palazzo Taieschi, the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions, the Church of Sant’Agostino, the Church of Badia, the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. You then head for the (medieval) Castle of Sorci, where lunch made from typical home made products of the Aretina cuisine will be served.
